sport rage

Violence, bad language, abuse, and general bad behaviour by players, officials, coaches, or spectators of sport. Sport rage is associated with a desire to win at any cost. An increase in sport rage has been linked to more officials quitting from sport, withdrawal of sponsorship, and a decrease in people taking up sport. Strategies to deal with sport rage include raising awareness of the phenomenon, promoting fair play (for example, by rewarding good behaviour), and creating positive and friendly environments in which sports are performed.
