Wikipedia: SpringSource

SpringSource is a division of VMWare, Inc. that develops and supports Java based enterprise middleware.

SpringSource provides support for the open source application frameworks Spring and Grails which run on the Java Virtual Machine. It also employs leaders from those as well as other open source projects and is an active participant in the Java Community Process.

The Spring Framework is one of the most popular frameworks in the Java web development industry, while Grails is the de facto web application framework for the Groovy programming language.

SpringSource was purchased for $420m by VMware in August 2009, and is now a division of VMware.
