Stéréo-Club Français

Photography Encyclopedia: Stéréo-Club Français

Stéréo-Club Français (SCF), Paris-based society founded by Benjamin Lihou (d. 1909) in 1903, at a time of vigorous innovation in stereoscopic photography. In many ways it epitomized the belle époque amateur club, organizing competitions, regular meetings, and photographic excursions and, from 1904, issuing a monthly newsletter. Of the many French photographic societies founded in this period, only the SCF survived, with wartime interruptions, throughout the 20th century.
