Review
What are you looking for in a punk band? Societal angst? Songs to get drunk by? Flashbacks to your spiked-hair high school days? This spirit has been reborn and goes by the name Lower East Side Stitches -- New York City's answer to the Buzzcocks. The Lower East Side Stitches revive downtown punk with hard to resist tracks on their 14-track debut. Songs like "NYC Is Dead," "Unload/Reload," and "Rustic City" are full of driving, pulsing beats, with reverberating guitar riffs and enjoyable sing-along verses. Like others in this revivalist trend, the speed guitar licks are hard, fast, and more abrasive than the pop-chart friendly brethren Green Day or Sublime. But this doesn't mean L.E.S. are any less sincere in their punk traditionalism. In fact, "NYC Is Dead" is intended as an indictment on the sanitization of L.E.S.' beloved fun city. If these punks had their way, there would be slam dancing in the streets and punk rock on every turntable. ~ Roxanne Blanford, All Music Guide
