1. The betting increments of a table.
2. The entry cost of a tournament.
SoundPoker Says: Stakes are the easiest way to tell the size of a game. The larger the stakes, the faster and larger the pots will grow.
1. It is common for stakes to be displayed with two numbers, such as $3/$6. The first number represents the minimum bet for the first two rounds of betting, and the second number represents the minimum bet for the last 2 rounds of betting. The stakes in no-limit poker are unlimited, and thus can be as large as a players bankroll.
2. The stakes may also be defined by the price of entry. For example, a tournament may have $500 entry fee which must be paid in order to participate in the tournament. Not surprisingly, the larger the entry price the larger the stakes.
