Stan Rose (Feb. 2, 1956- ) is a Ph.D. biologist, seasoned biotechnology executive, and serial entrepreneur. Dr. Rose has created and/or grown several businesses involving commercialization of tools used by scientists for DNA analysis and genome research. He is President of Rose Ventures, Inc., a firm that provides consulting and direction to select clients in the life science research products space, and manages a portfolio of public and private equity investments. Dr. Rose is a Member of Tactics II SC Management LLC (Madison, WI), an investment fund focused on companies in the stem cell space. He is a Director of NABsys (Providence, RI), a company that is using existing solid-state technologies to create a disruptively fast and low-cost DNA sequencing technology that employs electronic detection, does not depend on a polymerase, and directly obtains DNA sequence information over hundreds of thousands of bases. He is a Director of Cellular Dynamics International (Madison, WI), a leading developer of next-generation stem cell technologies for drug development and personalized medicine personalized medicine applications. Dr. Rose also owns and operates Estate Rose, a luxury rental villa in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Dr. Rose received his B.A. from Cornell University and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[1] He led the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) business for Perkin-Elmer during its most dynamic growth phase, both before and after the PCR business was acquired by Hoffman LaRoche in 1991.[2] He was involved in the team that negotiated the acquisition of Applied Biosystems by Perkin-Elmer in 1993, creating one of the world’s leading life science research products companies.[3] In 1997 Dr. Rose co-founded Genetic MicroSystems[4][5], a microarray instruments company that was acquired by Affymetrix in 2000 for $280 million[6]. In 2003 he became CEO of NimbleGen Systems[7], a microarray company that was sold to Roche in 2007 for $272.5 million.[8][9] Dr. Rose served as President of Roche NimbleGen from 2007 until the founding of Rose Ventures in 2008.
