STAR World is an Asian English language cable and satellite television owned by STAR TV. The channel is the successor of STAR Plus. Star World syndicates several popular shows from the United States and United Kingdom to appeal to the English-speaking population of India, the Middle East, the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

History

Before STAR World, STAR Plus was STAR's English language entertainment channel which has started its operations in 1 January 1994 and its Indonesia counterpart was Film Indonesia and India was Zee TV. But after STAR ended its partnership with Soraya Intercine FIlms and Zee Telefilm, STAR changed its content from STAR Plus to launched as STAR World which then was known as STAR PLUS International for a brief time. STAR Plus in India was once combine both US and Hindi entertainment until its full transform into a Hindi entertainment channel.

Some of the shows originate from the United States, but there is also programming from United Kingdom.

Operating channels

Although the channel shows the same programming, they mostly differ when it comes to showtimes.

  • STAR World Asia - (Broadcast times - HK/SIN and WIB/THAI) simulcast with the Middle-east feed at 24:00 to 06:00 (HK/SIN)
  • STAR World India - (Broadcast times - IND) This has different content from the other feeds.
  • STAR World Middle-East - (Broadcast times - KSA, UAE and PAK) including Channel [V] programs.
  • STAR World Philippines - with local commercials and Channel [V] programs.

India

  • STAR World is available in Digital via DTH operators Dish TV, Big TV and Tata Sky, Tata Sky is also a STAR TV asset.
  • STAR World is available in Hathway CAS on channel no. 028, in Digitelly CAS on channel no. 171 and also by all digital cable providers.
  • STAR World is also available on local cable network.

Bangladesh

  • STAR World is carried by most of the nationwide cable operators

Hong Kong

  • STAR World is exclusively available on now TV, starting January 26, 2005.

Serbia

  • STAR World is exclusively available on RTS.

Sri Lanka

  • Star World is available in DTH operator Dialog TV

  • STAR World is available only through subscription to StarHub TV.

Taiwan

  • STAR World is available in some local cable.

Thailand

  • STAR World is available in TrueVisions and on some provincial cable television networks.

Vietnam

  • STAR World is available in Ho Chi Minh City (through HTVC & SCTV), Ha Noi (through VCTV), Can Tho (through TayDo Cable), and via IPTV service by FPT ADSL Internet.

Myanmar

  • STAR World is available in Rangoon via MRTV-3.

South Pacific

  • Star World is available throughout the South Pacific through Sky Pacific.

Station IDs

  • When the channel was re-launched for the 3rd time in 2005, the song that was played on their SIDs was "Let's Get It Started" by Black Eyed Peas.
  • On 11 December 2006, the song has been changed to "Come Rain Come Shine" by Tata Young.
  • On 15 June 2007, the song has been changed to "Love Today" by Mika.
  • On 16 January 2008, the channel was re-launched with its new look. The song has changed to "Mercy" by Duffy.
  • On October 2008, STAR World Middle East feed was first to re-launched with its new look including the logo and station ID. However on November 3, 2008, India, Southeast Asia and the Philippines feeds received the new logo and station ID which the Middle East feed was already using.[1]
