StarCraft: The Board Game, published by Fantasy Flight Games, is a game inspired by the 1998 computer game StarCraft. Players take control of the three distinctive races featured in the video games, the Terrans, the Protoss, or the Zerg, to engage in battle across multiple worlds in order to achieve victory. Each of the three races features a fairly different playing style. With the inclusion of two distinct factions for each race, the game allows up to six players to play simultaneously. A prototype of the game was shown in BlizzCon 2007[1], with pre-release copies were sold at GenCon 2007 and Penny Arcade Expo 2007. It was publicly released in October 2007[2].

Description
The game features a modular game board consisting of up to twelve specific planets from the StarCraft game universe. At the onset of a game each player places two planets into the galaxy (the map size being dependent upon the number of players). Players control one of the above-mentioned races and will use various air and ground units in a bid for domination of the worlds. Players also collect resources (in the form of minerals and Vespene gas) that in turn are used to purchase units, buildings and technology.
The combat system uses a card system instead of dice.
The game has multiple victory conditions depending on the faction each player chooses, so it is rare for a player to have no chance to win. Because the board is modular and it is the players who create the map at the start of each game, every game is very likely to be different; thus increasing replayability.
The game comes with a total of 180 plastic figures, most of which were uniquely sculpted from the StarCraft computer game[3]. The game also comes with dozens of unit types and a modular board. A card-driven combat system allows players to modify and upgrade their faction with a number of technologies.
Brood War Expansion
The expansion, Starcraft: The Board Game: Brood War, adds many new features including Leadership cards, new planets, new types of order tokens, new faction sheets with updated buildings, New types of modules, new units and more. The new units added for Terrans are the Medic and the Valkyrie, for Zerg are the Lurker, Infested Terran, and the Devourer, and for the Protoss are the Dark Templar, Dark Archon and Corsair.
