Brown, Stephen [James Meredith] (1881-1962), bibliographer; born in Co. Down and ordained a Jesuit in 1914. Ireland in Fiction (1919) contains summaries of nearly 2, 000 Irish books. Studies in Life, By and Large (1942) contains reflective essays. The manuscript for a sequel to his great survey, covering prose works from 1918 to 1960, was completed by Desmond Clarke and issued in 1985.
