Biography

Before breaking into the entertainment industry as an art director on films like Something Wild (1986) and Dirty Dancing (1987), Stephen Lineweaver had been a tenured art professor and painter at the Albany campus of the State University of New York. During the early '80s, he left teaching to continue painting and to design lofts. He entered films as an art director in 1984, with Alphabet City and Brother From Another Planet. Later in the decade, he was approached by television producer James L. Brooks about designing innovative sets for the upcoming Tracey Ullman Show. In 1988, Lineweaver's work garnered him an Emmy. Afterward, he worked as a full-fledged production designer on films ranging from Singles (1992) to City Slickers 2: The Legend of Curly's Gold (1994) to Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1996). ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
