Music Encyclopedia: Stephen Oliver

(b Liverpool, 10 March 1950; d London, 29 April 1992). English composer. He studied at Oxford University (electronic music with Sherlaw Johnson). His music is largely associated with the theatre, and includes numerous operas (Tom Jones, 1976; Beauty and the Beast, 1984; Timon of Athens, 1991), music for the Royal Shakespeare Company (Nicholas Nickleby, 1980) and the musical Blondel (1983).
