Biography

Steve Cochrane was born in 1961 in Nova Scotia, Canada. Growing up in Ontario, Cochrane learned guitar and joined several local bands including the prog rock Endpieces from 1980 to 1983. Cochrane then decided to go solo and spent five years working on an album based on the work of the writer Ayn Rand. However, after record companies balked at fronting the cash to record the album, he shelved the project and began to focus on recording on keyboards. The synth-dominated Heroes Awaken (1991) was Cochrane's first album and was his most new age-styled release. For his second album, To See It Made Real, Cochrane mixed in more guitar and progressive material than his first album. 1995's The Purest of Designs was generally considered his strongest album to date, featuring revamped material from his shelved first project and containing more prog rock influenced pieces. ~ Geoff Orens, All Music Guide
