Stonegate Farmers has plenty of reason to look serene on its nest. It's a major UK egg producer and a world producer of free-range and organic eggs. The company oversees egg production from hatching to packing. It supplies both branded and own-label eggs to big UK grocers such as ALDI, Asda, Sainsbury, and Waitrose. Beyond plain old large white eggs, shoppers can choose Stonegate eggs based on the breed and diet of hens that laid them. The company has grown through acquisitions, investing in equipment, and creating value-added specialty eggs. Acquired by Deans Foods (now Noble Foods) in 2006, Noble is looking for a buyer for Stonegate after Europe's Competition Commission ordered the companies to be broken up.
