stop and hold

Marketing Dictionary: stop and hold

inactive customer record status used when the address in the record is known to be undeliverable or when a temporary cessation in service to the customer is required or requested for other reasons, such as when a magazine subscriber is away on extended vacation. By placing a record in stop and hold, service can be suspended without canceling the record or allowing it to expire. Customer records associated with undeliverable billing documents are placed in stop and hold until the customer contacts the marketer and supplies a correct address. See also suspend.
