Biography

Growing up in Oxon Hill, MD, just outside Washington, D.C., Dwayne Henry was first introduced to hip-hop through his cousin, who, on his visits from Queens, would play him tapes of the popular party jams. Inspired by these, and by artists like Slick Rick and the Juice Crew, Henry began to take his first steps toward rapping when he performed in a high-school talent show and soon was performing at clubs both in D.C. and near his university in Rochester, NY. Taking the name Storm the Unpredictable (though he also sometimes went under Quiet Storm), he released his debut single, MCs be Killin' Me, in 1997. An EP, The Unexpected, came out shortly after (and was later reissued in 2000). By the time his first full-length, Amalgamation, hit shelves, Storm's thoughtful and engaging yet entertaining style had won him underground rap fans around the country, his talent solidified after winning a top spot in the 2005 John Lennon Songwriting Contest for "Contradictions," a track that was then included on his 2006 Domination Recordings release, A2: What Should Have Been. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
