Stover (#3) during a game

Stover was drafted by the New York Giants with the 329th selection in the 1990 NFL draft. He couldn't displace incumbent Matt Bahr, but would get the kicking job from the Cleveland Browns in 1991. Stover kept the job through the 2008 season, though in 1996 the team he played for became the Baltimore Ravens. He was a member of the winning team in Super Bowl XXXV. No player has scored more points for a single franchise than Stover has for the Ravens/Browns. He ranks 5th all time in the NFL in scoring with 1,944 points as of January 4, 2008. On November 16, 2008 Stover set an NFL record, kicking his 372nd consecutive point after touchdown. The kick broke the record Stover shared with Jason Elam (1993–2002) and Jeff Wilkins (1999–2007). Stover started his streak in 1996. Stover had tryouts with the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants in 2009. On October 14, 2009, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts after Adam Vinatieri went down with a knee injury. Stover was 6 for 6 in PATs in his debut with the Colts against the St. Louis Rams. Two weeks later, against the New England Patriots, he kicked the game winning PAT with 13 seconds left, giving his team a 9-0 record.

Stover was among the last of the original Baltimore Ravens still active in the NFL.
