Biography

Stratos Payioumtzis was one of the greatest singers of 20th century Greek music. Launching his professional career shortly after moving from Asia Minor (Aibali) to Greece in 1919, Payioumtzis was heralded by the country's best composers. In addition to interpreting the songs of his longtime friend, Markos Bambakris, Payioumtzis provided a sympathetic voice for the songs of George Batis, Anestos Delias, Markos, Vasilis Tsitsanis,Papaioanou, Keromitis, Mpagianteras, Tountas, and Papazoglou. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
