Biography

The hard rock outfit Stress came together in 1983 when bassist Josquin des Pres and vocalist/guitarist Mike Thomas decided to start a jazz/hard rock fusion group. The thinking behind it was to take the skill of jazz playing and apply it to a rock style. Guitarist Tim Nicholson signed on, and the revolving lineup of drummers began, with only Leroy Vega sticking around long enough to really be considered a regular drummer. Former Aerosmith guitarist Jimmy Crespo replaced Nicholson in 1985 and the band carried on without major-label interest until 1987, when they decided to give up the rock & roll game. A collection of their entire recording catalog, Killing Me Night & Day, was issued after their demise. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide

There is also a Brazilian heavy metal band called Stress.

Stress was a melodic rock band formed in San Diego in 1983.

Biography

Stress was founded in 1983 by bassist Josquin des Pres and vocalist/guitarist Mike Thomas. They added guitarist Tim Nicholson and went through a number of drummers; most notably Jeff Gabaldon and Leroy Vega (formerly of Assassin). When Nicholson left in early 1985, he was replaced with guitarist Jimmy Crespo, who had previously played with Aerosmith.

Stress performed primarily in San Diego and Los Angeles performing at clubs such as Madame Wong's, FM Station and The Troubadour.

In late 1987, frustrated by not attracting major label attention, Stress decided to move in a more pop direction. This failed to obtain the level of success they desired and they disbanded.
