Striated muscle is a form of fibers that are combined into parallel fibers. More specifically, it can refer to:
- Skeletal muscle
- Cardiac muscle~cardiac referring to the heart.
In practice, the term "striated muscle" is sometimes used to refer exclusively to skeletal muscle when distinguishing it from smooth muscle.[1] However, different medical dictionaries report different usages of the terms. Cardiac muscle is a different type of muscle, but has almost the same structure as skeletal muscle.
