Estado Sucre is one of the 23 states (estados) into which Venezuela is divided. The state capital is Cumaná. Sucre State covers a total surface area of 11,800 km² and, in 2007, had an estimated population of 916,600. Cumana is the political capital of this state and is famous for its beaches but is also important historically.
