Biography

Sue Evans has provided percussive support for jazz and pop groups, as well as instrumentalists and vocalists. She's played conventional trap drums and various percussion instruments. Evans studied with Warren Smith and Sonny Igoe, and graduated from the High School of Music and Art in 1969. She toured Europe and America as a drummer with Judy Collins from the late '60s until the mid-'70s, while also touring and recording with Gil Evans as a percussionist from 1969 until 1982. During the '70s, Evans worked with Steve Kuhn and the Jazz Composer's Orchestra under Roswell Rudd, while she played with Michael Franks, Suzanne Vega and Tony Bennett in the '80s. She's recorded with Bobby Jones, George Benson, Urbie Green and Art Farmer in the '70s, and Morgana King in the '80s. Evans has no sessions as a leader, but can be heard on many CDs featuring Gil Evans, Benson, Green, Farmer and King among others. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
