Sue Teller

Sue Teller is an online personality and an Internet phenomenon, the host of a series of ostensibly amateur video blogs entitled Do Your Own Adventure with Sue Teller. The videos were originally broadcast on YouTube in January of 2007, and rose to notoriety late in the same month. Media-savvy bloggers highlighted the apparently practiced synergy between the videos' ironic, retro campiness of the production (which suggested late-night public television), the decidedly hip subject matter (i.e. "how to create a mash-up"), and the suspicious addition of a Mountain Dew soft drink to several scenes.

In early January, 2007, YouTube member mmand86 posted the two original Sue Teller videos -- one a tutorial on the art of the Musical Mash-Up; the other a how-to, called Customize Your Kicks. Bloggers speculated that the video was not an amateur video blog at all -- rather an instance of viral marketing produced by Pepsi Co., perhaps precipitating the launch of a major advertising campaign at the Super Bowl.[1] During the last week of January, the videos appeared on Current TV. During the credit sequence at the end of the Mash-Up video that aired on Current, it briefly states that promotional consideration had been paid for by Mountain Dew.
