Sue Thomas

(agent)

Sue Thomas is an American woman who became the first deaf person to work as an investigator for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Thomas, who lost her hearing at 18 months of age, grew up in Youngstown, Ohio. She was educated at Springfield College and Case Western Reserve University in political science and international relations, and was later hired as a filing clerk by the FBI. Because of her skill at lipreading, she was asked one day to review a surveillance tape whose sound had failed, and her success with that case led her to further work as an FBI agent. Thomas later left the force.

Her story was adapted for the television series Sue Thomas: F.B. Eye, which starred actress Deanne Bray as Thomas.

She also appeared in the TV series in a cameo role.
