Suhag is gotra (clan) of Jats found in Rajasthan in India. It is also known as Sihag,Sohag,Sehwag and Siyag. The literal meaning of the word 'Suhag' is 'good fortune' and it derives from the Sanskrit word 'saubhaagya' (derivation: saubhaagya > sohagga > sohaag > suhaag). They were chieftains of a place called ‘Kod Khokhar’ in Mewar region of Rajasthan. After some time they reached Marwar region in Rajasthan and constructed fort at Pahalkot (Pallukot) in memory of their chieftain named Pallu. They occupied Pallukot and Dadreda areas. Pahalu or Pall was title of Rana kshatriyas. Their ancestors were Vir. Rana and Dhir Rana had ruled over the land of 'Medpat' region prior to this.
Besides Rajasthan, Suhag gotra is very comman in Haryana. Other variants of the word Suhag are Sohag (common in rural Gujarat) Sehwag, Sihag and Suhaag (just a spelling convention adopted by Hindi to indicate a of father).
Then there is the meaning of the word, perhaps the most famous one wherever Hindi is spoken or understood, that of 'husband' (the real one as well as in the abstract): a relic of male dominance as it implies having a huasband is kind of 'good fortune' for a woman.
