The Summer Mile Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in Great Britain which is open to thoroughbreds aged four years or older. It is run at Ascot over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in July.
It has developed from a Listed event called the Silver Trophy Stakes which used to be held at Lingfield Park. This was formerly contested on turf over 7 furlongs and 140 yards, and it was open to horses aged three or older. It became a handicap race in 1993, and it continued as such until 1998. The following year it was transferred to its present venue, Ascot, and its distance was extended to a mile.
The Silver Trophy Stakes was promoted to Group 3 class in 2003, and simultaneously the minimum age of participating horses was raised to four. It was switched back to Lingfield for two years while Ascot was closed for redevelopment, and during this period it was run on Polytrack. The 2005 edition was the first Group race in Britain to be run on a synthetic surface. The event was given its current title in 2006, and upon its return to Ascot in 2007 it was upgraded to Group 2 status.
