Not much is known about the mysterious mutant called Sunder, except he was a founding member of the Morlocks, abandoning whatever identity he may once have had in the surface human world. Sunder was the aide to Callisto, and was the muscles of his group and was very protective of them, especially Callisto. On Callisto's orders, he kidnapped Angel to the realm of the Morlocks.[2] He later aided Callisto in abducting Kitty Pryde and attempting to force Pryde to marry the Morlock Caliban.[3] He also served the wizard Kulan Gath when the latter took over Manhattan.[4] Some time later, he took up residence on Muir Island.[volume & issue needed] He briefly joined the "Muir Island" X-Men organized by Moira MacTaggert, but was shortly killed by the cyborg Pretty-Boy with a bullet wound in the back when the Reavers invaded Muir Island.[5]
Sunder's mutant powers give him superhuman strength, stamina and durability. While a member of the Muir Island X-Men, he wore a specially designed X-Man uniform consisting of light body armor; however, neither this nor his natural durability were enough to withstand the machine gun bullet wounds he received at the hands of the Reavers.
In this reality, Sunder was known as Brute, and was a member of the Outcasts alongside Nate Grey.[volume & issue needed] He discovered that "Essex" was in fact, Mister Sinister in disguise, but was killed by him before he was able to warn the others.[volume & issue needed]
Sunder was seen as a member of the Genoshan Black Ops version of the Marauders.[volume & issue needed]
Sunder was introduced to the Ultimate Marvel Universe in Ultimate X-Men #82 as the leader of the Ultimate Morlocks.[6] His powers seem similar, but he seems to be near invincible (Nightcrawler broke his neck and he regenerated[volume & issue needed]). For some time he leads the Morlock group, based on his strength. His desire to fight and kill any perceived threat, instead of using diplomatic means, results in his demotion as leader and seeming replacement by Nightcrawler.[volume & issue needed] His look is a major change, with yellow skin, white hair and a more normal shape. In Ultimate X-Men #90 he is forced to bring some innocent mutants to Mister Sinister; he could not stop and seemed sorry.[7]
