In lieu of getting the majority of those '70s chart highlights with the shag-carpeted box set, this collection of the first four of Rhino's many Super Hits of the '70s records should keep listeners nicely occupied, especially if they're partial to the early years of the decade. Over the span of 48 tracks, the mix makes its way through '60s folk-pop (Shocking Blue's "Venus"), cowbell blues-rock (Mountain's "Mississippi Queen"), and crossover country (Lynn Anderson's "Rose Garden"). In between, there's some updated bubblegum from the Partridge Family ("I Think I Love You"), a bit of watered-down psych compliments of Norman Greenbaum ("Spirit in the Sky"), and the requisite novelty thanks to Brewer & Shipley ("One Toke Over the Line").
