Biography

Glasgow, Scotland's Superstar play updated power-pop like their old friends Teenage Fanclub, but singer/guitarist Joe McAlinden's classical upbringing means that strings and some brass appear. McAlinden met Nellie Grant and Raymond Prior in early 1992 and the trio began to practice, recording an EP that spring. The summer brought their first album, Greatest Hits, Volume One. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

"Superstar" is a song by British R&B star Jamelia, released as the second single from her second album Thank You. The song, released in the UK on September 15, 2003, was a sleeper hit, entering the UK Top 10 at #8 but as airplay, video play and the general awareness of the track increased, after a month on the UK Singles Chart, the track climbed to a peak of #3. "Superstar" became the 26th biggest selling single of 2003, the first appearance for Jamelia in the Official Chart of the Year. The single has been certified Silver in the UK by the BPI, spending 20 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, over double that of her previous biggest hit, "Money".

"Superstar" also saw worldwide chart success including a peak of #1 in Australia and New Zealand along with top 10 positions in over 15 other countries.

According to a HitQuarters interview with co-writer and producer the Cutfather, the song was initially inspired by Liberty X's Just A Little, "I liked that song and wanted to do something, not similar, but something in that vibe."[1]

The track was originally released by Danish singer Christine Milton in Spring 2003.

In November 2006, a rewrite of "Superstar" appeared on the debut album of US pre-teen Bianca Ryan, the winner of the first season of America's Got Talent. Israeli pop star Roni Duani also made her breakthrough hit with a Hebrew language cover of this song.

This song also appeared on the Japanese video game Dance Dance Revolution FESTIVAL, and its European counterpart Dancing Stage Fusion. It is also featured on the karaoke game, Lips as downloadable content.

The song also appeared on the soundtrack for the Disney Channel show, That's So Raven.
