Biography

Canadian actress Susan Clark was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She made her TV debut in an episode of the Toronto-filmed adventure series Seaway, then launched her Hollywood career in Banning (1967). Resisting attempts by the studio to turn her into a traditional leading lady, Clark has actively sought out roles requiring heavy dramatics and extreme physical exertion: she won an Emmy award for the 1975 TV movie Babe, in which she played Olympic athlete Babe Didrickson Zaharias. Active as a film actress and producer into the 1980s, Susan Clark has also starred on the weekly TV sitcom Webster, playing opposite her husband and production partner, actor/athlete Alex Karras. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

She was one of several successful entertainers and many notable persons to have attended this school. She is married to her Webster co-star Alex Karras, and the two have a daughter named Katie (b. 1980). They met when they costarred in the TV movie, Babe, in which she played Babe Didrikson Zaharias, and he played her husband, professional wrestler George Zaharias.

In 1976, Clark starred in a three-hour made-for-television movie biography of the famed aviatrix, Amelia Earhart, and her marriage to noted publisher G.P. Putnam, for which she received an Emmy nomination for Best Actress.

She also played murderer Beth Chadwick in the Columbo episode "Lady in Waiting", which co-starred Leslie Nielsen and Jessie Royce Landis. Earlier in her career, she appeared in a 1965 episode of The Benny Hill Show during the comedian's run with the British Broadcasting Corporation.
