Biography

The daughter of a musician father and showgirl mother, Susan George was a British showbiz veteran before she was 10 years old. A Corona Stage Academy graduate, George was 12 when she was cast in the London production of The Sound of Music. The sweetness-and-light roles would fall by the wayside as George matured into a very sexy young woman. In films from 1967, George was usually cast as a blonde "tease," sometimes innocent (the gang-rape victim in Sam Peckinpah's Straw Dogs [1971]), sometimes not (the 1974 crime-caper flick Dirty Mary Crazy Larry). In addition to such recent acting assignments as the BBC TV series Stay Lucky (1993), George has been executive producer of two features, Stealing Heaven (1988) and That Summer of White Roses (1989). Susan George's partner in these production ventures was her husband, actor Simon MacCorkindale. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Career

Susan George has been acting since the age of four, appearing on both television and film. Her most notable roles include those of the rape victim Amy in Straw Dogs (1971), acting with Dustin Hoffman, and Mary Coombs in Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (1974). In the early 1970s George came to be associated with rather provocative, sometimes (as in Straw Dogs) controversial, roles and became quite type-cast. The film historian Leslie Halliwell's rather terse summary of her career was: "British leading lady, former child actress; usually typed as sexpot"[1]

George's lighter side was apparent in some of her TV appearances, such as in an episode of The Persuaders (1971) with Roger Moore and Tony Curtis.

In 1988, George marked her movie producing debut with Stealing Heaven.

Susan George has been married to British actor Simon MacCorkindale since 5 October 1984. They have no children. Her earlier reported relationships supposedly included ones with Jack Jones and Charles, Prince of Wales of the United Kingdom. Susan was reportedly invited to attend the wedding of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, but it is unclear whether she attended or not.[citation needed]
