Stroman, Susan (b. 1960), choreographer and director. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, and educated at the University of Delaware, Stroman began choreographing musicals in regional theatre in 1987 and was first noticed in Manhattan for her clever dances in the Off‐Broadway revue And the World Goes Round (1991). Soon she was one of the most sought‐after choreographers in New York, providing dances for Crazy for You (1992), Show Boat (1994), A Christmas Carol (1994), Big (1996), Steel Pier (1997), and Oklahoma! (2002). By the end of the 20th century Stroman was a recognized director‐choreographer as well, with such Broadway productions as The Music Man (2000), Contact (2000), The Producers (2001), and Thou Shalt Not (2002).

US choreographer. She was active during the 1980s, choreographing for various regional productions, but it was with the off-Broadway show And the World Goes Round (1991), which she co-conceived and choreographed, that she was acknowledged as a leading talent in musical theatre. She has since received numerous awards for her choreography, including Crazy for You (Broadway, 1992), Show Boat (Broadway, 1994), Steel Pier (Broadway, 1997), and Oklahoma! (London, 1998). She has also choreographed works for the Graham company, But Not For Me (mus. Gershwin, 1998), and for New York City Ballet, Blossom Got Kissed, the final section of Duke! (mus. Ellington, 1999), and Double Feature (mus. various, 2004). In 1999 she choreographed, directed, and co-created (with author John Weidman) the acclaimed dance theatre work Contact (mus. various, Lincoln Center, New York) and in 2001 directed and choreographed the multi-award winning musical The Producers. She has also choreographed for New York City Opera, and for television, including An Evening with the Boston Pops: A Tribute to Leonard Bernstein.
