Swiftair is an airline based in Madrid, Spain. It operates scheduled and charter, passenger and cargo flights in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Its main base is Barajas International Airport, Madrid.[citation needed]

History

The airline was founded in 1986. It wholly owns subsidiary Mediterranean Air Freight. Currently Swiftair is also a UN contractor with two MD-83 based in Khartoum (Sudan) for the United Nations Mission in Sudan.[citation needed]

The Swiftair fleet consists of the following aircraft (at 15 October 2009) [1]:

Aircraft orders

  • Swiftair has agreed to acquire three new ATR 72-500 aircraft for delivery between December 2007 and mid-2008. They will join 16 older ATR 42-200 aircraft already in service. The ATR fleet may be increased to 30 aircraft by 2010.[1]
  • Swiftair has also selected the Boeing 737-300F as the basis of its future European freighter fleet. The first aircraft was delivered in May 2007 on lease from AWAS.[1]
