Dick Hyman performs nine selections from the now obscure Broadway musical Whoop-Up, which was written by the late Moose Charlap (father of jazz pianist Bill Charlap). Although none of the music from this show (which was set on a Montana Indian reservation) became favorites of jazz musicians, the tunes are attractive; Hyman and his supporting cast, which includes bassist Jack Lesberg, drummer Don Lamond, guitarist Joe Puma, and, on a few tracks, bongo player Phil Kraus, swings them nicely. This long-out-of-print LP will likely be difficult to find, although Dick Hyman fans should definitely make the effort to locate it. ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide
