A set of signs and symptoms associated with the accumulation of fat in the abdomen. This form of fat distribution is common in middle-aged men and is often visible as a pot belly or paunch. Syndrome X is characterized by a number of disorders including gout, impaired glucose metabolism (increasing susceptibility to diabetes), raised blood pressure, and elevated blood cholesterol levels. People with Syndrome X have a high risk of heart disease.
