Systemax, Inc. (NYSE: SYX) is a Fortune 1000 company based in Port Washington, New York[2] that sells personal computers, computer supplies, consumer electronics and industrial products through multiple e-Commerce web sites and retail stores, as well as through relationship marketers and direct mail catalogs that are circulated in North America and Europe[3]. It also operates ComputerTV, an online video channel, and manufactures and sells computers and accessories under the Systemax and Ultra brands[4]
The company was founded in 1949 as Global Equipment Company, a materials handler. It first entered direct marketing in 1972 and began marketing computer equipment in 1981. It changed its name to Global Directmail in 1995 and to Systemax in 1999.

Marketing
Systemax offers over 40,000 products to its two million customers[3]. SystemaxPCs are advertised as "The Perfect PC" for the educated buyer who wants name brand components, warranty and service without paying for massive amounts of advertising, according to their webpage.
They market to mid-range and major corporate accounts, small office/home office customers, value added resellers, software & internet developers, and networking professionals. These customers are reached via frequent catalog mailings, account relationship marketing, easy to use internet sites and a variety of promotions[3].
Systemax Computer Lines
The Systemax Venture line of PCs, including the power-efficient Venture VE55, are entry-level Windows XP home computers.
The Systemax Hellcat line of PCs is an entry into the gaming market competing against the Alienware Area 51 and Dell XPS directly. Systemax Hellcats use Athlon 64 X2 and Athlon 64 FX processors bundled with high-end GeForce cards, exclusive to TigerDirect.com. Systemax Tigershark offers Core 2 Quads and high-end Geforce cards.[citation needed]
Systemax MFG is an entirely American company. All tech support, manufacturing, sales, and service is based in America, with tech support and manufacturing near Fletcher, Ohio.

Acquisition of Circuit City's name and trademarks
On May 13, 2009, Circuit City announced it had closed a deal with Systemax allowing them to acquire the Circuit City trademarks, brand name, and internet domain, for $14 million.[8]
On May 19, 2009, Systemax Inc. purchased the Circuit City brand and website.
