Theodore Jasper "T.J." Detweiler is the protagonist of the television show Recess.
T.J. is the ringleader of his five best friends. He normally wears a red baseball cap backwards. T.J. usually spends time planning pranks against the teachers. In The Experiment because of "the straws" he was forced to kiss Spinelli. He also has a dance by raising his arms and placing both of hands in a single fist and bouncing it above his head and then punches the air to side. He also has the catchphrase "Tender." T.J. and Spinelli may have had crushes on each other. He has a sister named Becky who was in Recess: School's Out and was portrayed by Melissa Joan Hart. He was voiced by Ross Malinger from 1997-1998, and Andrew Lawrence afterward.
In the movie Recess: School's Out, T.J. and his friends all help to "save the world" from Principal Prickly's old rival Phillium Benedict, who wanted to get rid of recess, and more notably Summer vacation. T.J. and Prickly also seem to reach an understanding between them. In Recess Christmas: Miracle on Third Street Prickly at first thinks T.J. and his gang are bad but after they rescue him, Finster and Grotkey from a snowbank, Prickly admits T.J. isn't so bad.
