A school Talent Show taking place in Glasgow, Scotland.

A talent show is an event where contestants perform acting, singing, dancing, acrobatics, drumming, martial arts and other activities to showcase a unique form of talent, often for some sort of reward. Some very early known works include Shakespeare plays held in courtyards for the community to enjoy.[citation needed]

In recent times, talent shows have become a notable genre of reality television. Shows such as Popstars, Idol series, The X Factor, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, BritAsiaSuperStar and Got Talent series have become very popular, and some participants have become famous as a result. However, earlier televised shows include Star Search and Amateur Night at the Apollo. In modern times, many websites broadcast local community talent shows online, especially through video hosting sites like YouTube.
