Though DJ Heather may not have the anthem-filled tracks found on Derrick Carter's Cosmic Disco album, or the fluffiness of Mark Farina's several mix CDs, she does have just as much -- if not more -- soul and funk than these two renowned house DJs. Tangerine documents exactly why Heather is so respected among those in the know; her tracks bleed from one to the next without notice, while her music never rises from its deepness. This is the sort of house music that purists cling to: no glossy progressive trappings, no novelty melodies or trickery, no excessiveness, no attitude, just plenty of funk smoothed out with a heavy dose of soul. Of course, with such an emphasis on minimal and modest attributes, Heather doesn't try to break any new ground, merge new sounds together, or be innovative. She pieces together a wonderful set of deep sounds capable of getting grandma on the dancefloor; it's really hard to resist such a blatant evocation of funk and soul, arguably the two deepest elements at the heart of electronic dance music. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
