Tarlac City is a 1st class city in the province of Tarlac, Philippines[1]. Tarlac City was governed by former Philippines senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. and Tarlac is shown on the back of the Philippines 500 peso note [2] that features him. According to the latest census, Tarlac City has a population of 314,155 people in 51,703 households.

The city has been proclaimed as one of the recently declared Highly-Urbanized cities in the Philippines under the power of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo but the decision was opposed by the provincial government.

Geography

The city is situated at the center of the province. To its north is Gerona, west is San Jose, south is Capas and Concepcion and eastern boundaries are Victoria and La Paz.

Transportation

Tarlac City is the typical bus stop for commuters plying the Ilocos Region and Cordillera provinces. Philippine Rabbit is the only bus company that serves the city. But there are other companies that passed by through the city including Victory Liner, Five Star, Partas, Farinas, Genesis, GV Florida, etc.

Shopping

There are two main shopping malls in Tarlac City; Metro Town Mall and Magic Star Mall. SM Prime Holdings is presently building SM City Tarlac which will be first SM Supermall in the city of Tarlac; it is due to be completed in late 2009 or early 2010.
