TCL Corporation brings ringtones to the ears of the people. The company, which does most of its business in China, is one of that country's leading makers of cell phones and televisions. It also makes other household appliances, personal computers, standard wireline telephones, and electrical components such as light switches and cabling. TCL has technology partnerships with Microsoft and Intel. The company, established in 1981 as maker of cassette tapes, is owned primarily by the Chinese city of Huizhou. The TCL Corporation is a publicly traded, Chinese electronics manufacturer headquartered in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, southern China.

The three listed companies of the TCL groups are TCL Corporation (SZ.000100) on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, and TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings, Ltd. (HK.1070), TCL Communication Technology Holdings, Ltd. (HK.2618) on the Hong Kong Exchange.[1]

TCL's corporate tagline is "The Creative Life".[2]

History

Incorporated in 1985 as TCL Telecommunication Equipment Co Ltd, it manufactured consumer electronics for sale on the Chinese market during the eighties,[3] and began to sell overseas in the 2000s.[4] Though a state-owned enterprise, it was set up as a joint venture with Hong Kong investors.[3] Today it sells products throughout the world under four brand names.[5]

TCL sells products under the brand name TCL in Asia, South America, South Africa, Russia and Australia, as RCA in North America and as Thomson and Alcatel in Europe.[6]
