Review: Overall
Team NFL 1993 Preview is not really a game, but a static online magazine enlivened with sounds, pictures and quicktime movies. The CD-ROM contains statistics on the 1993 Teams in the AFC and NFLC and allows you to view those statistics by Team, the League leaders and Hashmarks, which is an in-depth look at the best and most improved players of the 1992 season.Hashmarks also contains a footnotes sections with obituaries, retirements, and a rookie progress report from the 1992 season. It also includes a list of who made the all-star team. There is a separate section devoted to "sleepers" and comeback players.
Also on the CD-Rom is a scouting report for every team in the NFL for the 1993 season. Although no longer useful for the team, my father, a big sports buff, enjoyed comparing the scouting reports to how the teams actually did during that year. It was interesting for him to see how the teams stacked up against the opinions of the "experts" who made the reports.
The scouting report includes many sound bites and quicktime movies showing clips from the 1992 season, both good and bad. Pictures are also included.
The Feature Articles section includes an article on Troy Aikman "The Biggest Cowboy in Football", an article on the coaches George Halas and Don Shula called "In Search of Papa Bear" and other stories on the Buffalo Bills '92 comeback and players Sterling Sharpe and Steve Young.
The CD also contains the now-obsolete 1993 playing schedules for all the NFL Teams, available in both week by week and team by team format. The post season schedule is included.
Finally, the Best Shots area is full of pictures by various photographers, accompanied by sound and narration. You can view the pictures one by one or in a slide show format.
Though the 1993 season is long past, this CD-ROM allows you to go back and relive its earliest moments. Sports buffs interested in team history or in the history of the NFL would enjoy this CD-ROM, both for the memories and the great number of pictures and movies this Disk contains.
