Review

Terrain is another elegant release from Die Stadt, a 10" 45-rpm EP comprised of two pieces by David Jackman from the early '80s. "Terrain" is a duet with Philip Sanderson, never heard before in this version and almost ever heard at all in its original form on a private cassette release in 1982. Dark and menacing, this rhythmic soundscape has aged very well. The same applies to "Adrift," a solo piece from another extremely rare cassette from 1981. This one has the cling-clang of a dream catcher accompanying drones and a ghostly three-note figure -- typical Jackman, beautiful and yearning. Terrain is not an essential item by any means, but fans who are latecomers to Jackman's music will find it worth the time and money necessary to acquire a copy. ~ François Couture, All Music Guide
