Terri Lynn Land (born June 30, 1958) is the 41st Michigan Secretary of State. Land was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Land graduated from Grandville High School, and later received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She married Dan Hibma in 1983 and have two children Jessica and Nicholas.
Terri Lynn Land served as County Clerk/Register of Deeds for Kent County in 1993-2000. In 2000, Land ran unsuccessfully for the Michigan State Board of Education.[1] She was elected Secretary of State in November 2002 and took office on January 1, 2003. Land worked with the local, state, and federal government to implement enhanced driver's licenses. She has also pushed for early voting and no ID voting[citation needed]. In 2007, Land worked with state legislators to implement a new law allowing only legal citizens to obtain state driver licenses.

2006 election
Land was nominated by the Michigan Republican State Convention for re-election in November. Her Democratic opponent was Macomb County Clerk-Register Carmella Sabaugh. On November 7, 2006 Land was re-elected to serve as Michigan's Secretary of State for a second term.
2010 gubernatorial candidacy
Land has declared her exploratory committee for Governor of Michigan in 2010.[2] In 2008, Land spoke to GOPAC a week after the presidential election, stating that for the Republican Party to win, "[t]he Republican Party of the future must reach beyond its traditional base... We might not agree with each other on everything but we should still have a place for anyone who wants to join us." However on June 25 of 2009 it was learned that Land would pull out of the race for governor and back Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. Her pull out of the race came as a surprise to many as she would have been the obvious Republican front runner and had a good chance of beating the likely Democrat candidate John D. Cherry.[3]
Land has announced she will run for Lieutenant Governor as Michael Bouchard's running mate in 2010.[4]
