Teynampet is one of the busiest commercial localities of the city of Chennai, India. Neighbouring localities include Alwarpet, T. Nagar, Nandanam, and Nungambakkam. Teynampet is along Anna Salai, the arterial road of Chennai. Teynampet derives its name from Thennam and pettai (Place of coconut trees) due to the coconut groves that once existed there.

Teynampet houses one of the famous Chennai's arts and science women's college Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College (more commonly known as SIET). Just opposite to the college is the Seethamal colony, a very quiet, modest residential locality that is in the vicinity of Anna Salai.

All the express, ordinary, and at times, even the out-station buses that ply on Anna Salai stop at the Teynampet SIET stop.

Vellala Teynampet & Ellaiyamman colony are the important residential area which locates opposite to Kamaraj Arangam.

Teynampet also houses "Anna Arivalayam" which is the head office of the DMK party.

This locality also houses one of the greatest mathematicians of all time,Mr K.N.Prem Chand, Director, IUPAM(International Union Of Pure And Applied Mas) at Ellaiamman colony.
