Thaddaeus Ropac is an Austrian art dealer who owns the Galerie
Thaddaeus Ropac, with two locations, one in Salzburg, Austria and one in
Paris, France.
In 1983 Thaddaeus Ropac founded his first gallery in Salzburg specialising in contemporary European and North American art.
The first exhibitions that launched the Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in the art world were projects
with artists such as Joseph Beuys and Andy Warhol, but
also with younger, then emerging artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat,
Francesco Clemente and David Salle.
Member of the Advisory Board of the Museum of Cotemporary Art in Vienna
Member of the Advisory Board of FIAC/Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (France’s international contemporary art fair)
Member of the Advisory Board of the Salzburg Festival
In 2005, was named Officier dans L’Ordre des Arts et Lettres by French President Jacques Chirac.
In 2006 was awarded the Goldenes Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste um die Republik Österreich by Austrian President Heinz
Fischer.
