Biography

A one-group revival of the famed Philadelphia soul sound of the 1970s, the 3 Tenors of Soul feature the lead singers of three vocal groups from that golden era, Russell Thompkins, Jr. of the Stylistics, Ted "Wizard" Mills of Blue Magic, and William "Poogie" Hart of the Delfonics, any of whom are capable of soaring into a beautiful falsetto at the drop of a note. The three began doing shows together in the Philadelphia region as the Majestics, changing their name just before they began work on the group's debut album, which was released in 2007 by Shanachie Records as All the Way from Philadelphia. The album, which allows all three singers to take center stage on a selection of classic songs from the 1970s and 1980s, was produced by guitarist Bobby Eli at Studio E and featured some of Philadelphia's best soul players along with guest spots from Bilal, Hall & Oates, and the Average White Band. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
