Biography

The Adored feature Ryan (vocals), Nat (drums), Max (bass), and Drew (guitar). Named in part for the Stone Roses classic "I Wanna Be Adored," the stylish Los Angeles foursome delivers a spunky Britpop-influenced sound with sassy post-punk layers, for each member shares a fondness for the Clash, the Jam, the Smiths, and Buzzcocks. Prior to forming the Adored in 2002, Ryan and Nat were mainstays on the hardcore scene in northern California. Max and Drew met as students in Boston while traveling around Europe. Once in L.A., they became fast friends and began playing with other post-punk-influenced acts such as the Blood Arm and Ashbury. In 2004, the Adored made their V2 debut with a self-titled EP release. The five-song set was produced by Dave Trumfio (Koufax, OK Go, the Sun), and Buzzcocks' Pete Shelley also made an appearance. Select shows with Supergrass, the Zombies, Ima Robot, Bow Wow Wow, the Futureheads, and Les Savy Fav followed into 2005. A New Language marked the Adored's full-length debut in July 2006. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

The Adored is a power pop band based in Los Angeles, California. Until 2007, they were signed to V2 Records in North America (reportedly signed by former Black Flag and Circle Jerks frontman Keith Morris). [1] They released a 5-song EP in 2005, which featured guest vocals by Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks on 2 songs; and their debut LP, A New Language , was released in 2006.

The band is made up of Ryan George (vocals), Nathanael Keefer (drums), Drew 17 (guitar) and Max Humphrey (bass). George and Keefer originally met as Central Coast teenagers, through George's legendary straight edge hardcore punk band Carry On, with whom Keefer later played drums. Keefer later left Carry On and moved to Los Angeles, and George followed suit shortly after the release of their monumental LP A Life Less Plagued .

The band has moved from playing "wired discopunk" (-NME) in their early days to a more recent straightforward punk rock style, with strong power pop, Oi, new wave and Britpop influences. Their relationship with the Buzzcocks began when Pete Shelley met the band at their first New York City show in 2004. The most obvious and frequently cited source of the band's name is the Stone Roses song "I Wanna Be Adored."

Following a Los Angeles Times feature in 2005, Alternative Press named The Adored one of their 100 Band You Need To Know , and A New Language earned them positive reviews from publications like the Washington Post, [2] URB, power-pop magazines like Amplifier and PopMatters, and "Band of the Day" features on SPIN.com [3] and NPR.org.[4] Tours with Buzzcocks (in the UK and US), The Rakes and The Damned followed, as did a stint on Warped Tour [5] In 2007, however, following the collapse of V2 Records in North America, Ryan George appeared to have left the band. In spring 2007, several members of The Adored were reportedly backing up Annie Hardy of Giant Drag at Los Angeles-area shows.[6]

The song "Not Having It" was featured in the two-part Grey's Anatomy episode "The Other Side of This Life", which doubled as a backdoor pilot for the spinoff series Private Practice.
