Biography

Named after a Nintendo controller, the Advantage offered their own brand of specialized rock, playing covers of their favorite NES songs. The idea for the Advantage began in 1999 at a talent show in Nevada City, CA, when drummer Spencer Seim saw a two-person band perform video game songs. He joined the group immediately, and after the two founding members moved to Milwaukee, Seim added high-school friends and Generic bandmates Carson McWhirter, Ben Milner, and Nick Rogers on bass and guitars, respectively. Signed to Kill Rock Stars affiliate 5 Rue Christine, in 2004 the Advantage released their debut self-titled album, and two years later, after replacing Rogers with guitarist Robby Moncrieff, their second record, Elf Titled, came out. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide

The Advantage is an American rock band from Sacramento, CA, that formed in 1998 and specializes in doing covers of music from old NES games. They have covered songs from numerous videogames, including Mega Man, Air Fortress, Castlevania and Metroid. As of 2008 they have released two albums on the record label 5RC.

The band consists of Robby Moncrieff (guitar), Ben Milner (guitar), Carson McWhirter (bass) and Spencer Seim (drums) of Hella. Nick Rogers and Forrest Harding are the two original members that started the band, and Cassie Stewart was featured on bass for a while as well. Seim, who attended high school with Rogers and Harding, asked if he could play drums for them and was accepted. At the time the band was called Generic. Robby owns one quarter of the van.
