Review: Enjoyment
Fans of the animated series, or Batman in general, should be ecstatic. The only knocks are that you can't choose to play as Robin, and some players may not like the slower pace. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game GuideReview: Overall
If I had the power, I would issue a decree stating that onlyWhile the pace is not as fast as the other Adventures of Batman & Robin for the Genesis, this game is actually more faithful to its source material. You begin each level in the Batcave where you receive a transmission detailing the trouble in Gotham. Once briefed, you decide what equipment Batman will carry in his utility belt. Don't worry, you can always return to the Batcave at any time during the game -- but you will have to restart the level.
Some nifty gadgets are at your disposal: smoke bombs (with very realistic puffs of smoke), spray guns, plastic explosives, throwing stars, a flashlight, gas mask, and x-ray goggles (which turn the screen completely red). These are on top of your unlimited supply of batarangs and grappling hooks. Not only can you use these gadgets on enemies, but you can perform an array of moves such as punching, flying kicks, grabs, and throws. You can even let enemies squirm in your grasp before throwing them to their deaths! The control is excellent and the variety of ways to defeat enemies adds to the replay ability.
Structured like episodes from the cartoon, each enemy has his or her own stages. You'll fight hand to hand with thugs, swing away from crushing walls and ceilings with your grappling hook, leap from a moving roller coaster, and battle with huge sub-bosses on your way to confront the villain(s) of the level.
