Review

This LP includes some of Gerry Mulligan's charts for the orchestras of Gene Krupa ("How High the Moon" and "Disc Jockey Jump") and Elliot Lawrence ("Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" and "Elevation") in addition to featuring his own 1957 big band ("Thruway," "All the Things You Are," "Mullenium" and "Motel"). The Krupa performances are near-classic, the forgotten Lawrence band is in top form and Jeru's specially assembled orchestra features solos from baritonist Mulligan, trumpeters Jerry Lloyd and Don Joseph, trombonist Bob Brookmeyer, tenor-saxophonist Zoot Sims and altoist Lee Konitz. Excellent music although most of it has since been reissued on CD. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
